WordLasso ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use our macOS application, WordLasso.

Key Point: WordLasso is designed with privacy as a core principle. We do not collect, store, or transmit any personal information. All processing occurs locally on your device.

1. Information We Collect

Screen Capture Data

When you use WordLasso's text capture feature, the app temporarily captures a screenshot of the screen region you select. This screenshot exists only in your device's memory (RAM) for the brief moment required to perform Optical Character Recognition (OCR) using Apple's Vision framework. The screenshot is never saved to your device or transmitted anywhere.

How It Works:

  1. You initiate text capture (keyboard shortcut or menu selection)
  2. You drag to select a region of your screen
  3. The selected region is temporarily held in memory as a CGImage
  4. Apple's Vision framework processes the image to extract text
  5. The extracted text is copied to your system clipboard
  6. The temporary screenshot is immediately discarded

Duration: The screenshot exists in memory for approximately 1-2 seconds during processing.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the temporary screenshot solely to extract text using on-device OCR processing. The extracted text is copied to your system clipboard for your immediate use.

We do not use the screenshot or extracted text for any other purpose, including:

  • Analytics
  • Advertising
  • Machine learning or AI training
  • Product improvement
  • User profiling

3. Information Sharing and Disclosure

We do not share, sell, rent, or trade any information with third parties.

WordLasso does not use:

  • Cloud services
  • External APIs
  • Third-party SDKs
  • Analytics services
  • Advertising networks

All processing occurs locally on your device using Apple's native frameworks.

4. Data Retention

Screenshots

WordLasso does not retain any screenshots. The captured screen region exists only in volatile memory (RAM) during OCR processing (approximately 1-2 seconds) and is immediately discarded.

Extracted Text

Extracted text is only placed in your system clipboard (NSPasteboard) and is not stored by the application in any database, file, or cache.

User Preferences

We store only basic user preferences locally on your device using UserDefaults:

  • Whether you've completed onboarding
  • Your preferred keyboard shortcut
  • Your preference for "Launch at login" (disabled by default)

These preferences never leave your device.

5. Data Security

Since WordLasso processes all data locally on your device using Apple's native Vision framework, your screen content never leaves your device. No network transmission of screenshot data occurs.

The app uses standard macOS security features:

  • Sandboxing (com.apple.security.app-sandbox)
  • No network entitlements
  • No file system access beyond user-selected files

6. Your Rights and Choices

Screen Recording Permission

WordLasso requires screen recording permission to function. You can:

  • Grant permission when prompted during onboarding
  • Revoke permission at any time via System Settings > Privacy & Security > Screen Recording
  • Re-enable permission through the same settings path

Launch at Login

You control whether WordLasso starts automatically when you log in:

  • Enable: Settings > "Launch WordLasso at login" toggle
  • Disable: Uncheck the same toggle or use System Settings > General > Login Items

Default: This feature is disabled by default. You must explicitly opt-in.

7. Children's Privacy

WordLasso is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children.

8. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy in the app and updating the "Last Updated" date.
